A Heartfelt Farewell to Our Loyal Customers
Closure Announcement
Five years ago, we planned to retire from our business, and after 30 years, we are now closed. We are grateful to have left the business on our own terms and in our own way. No outside forces made us decide to close, just the plan to retire in 2025.
Transition Period
For the last two months, we have transitioned from a completely full store to a completely empty store, thanks to you, our loyal customers. Literally hundreds of you came in to say “goodbye, sorry to see you go, where are we going to go now to shop, good luck on your retirement, Granville Island won’t be the same, it’s the end of an era, you will be missed, your store was my favorite store, Red Sky was an icon, legendary, a gem,” and many, many, many other kind words.

Thank you for the tremendous pats on the back you have given us over these last days. We can go into retirement knowing we have had a very positive impact on the community and even in your lives. What you have given us in our retirement is something we will hold dear and never forget.

Red Sky's 30th Anniversary & Retirement Announcement
2025 marks a significant milestone – Red Sky’s 30th anniversary! It is also the year we retire. This is the exit strategy we set in motion five years ago, and today, we are making it public. While we will certainly miss serving our many incredible customers and the daily joy of working on Granville Island, we know that all good things must come to an end, and so it is with Red Sky Clothing and Footwear.
We are deeply grateful for the wonderful staff who have worked with us over the years, some of whom have become dear friends. It has been a true pleasure watching them grow, not only professionally but personally, as they moved on to their "real professions" after working with us during their schooling or life transitions.
Being part of the Granville Island Business community has been an immensely rewarding experience. Serving as a member of the executive of GIBCA during the lead-up to and through the 2010 Olympics was particularly exciting. We are also proud to have been the founding sponsor of the Granville Island Chalk Art Contest. The best part of Granville Island is the fact that most of the businesses here are independently owned and operated, just like ours. It’s been a privilege to connect with so many fellow small business owners.
We’ve already reached out to thank our suppliers, many of whom have been with us for the entire 30 years. Strong partnerships like these are rare, and we value the lasting win-win relationships we've built. We’re glad to have had the chance to express our gratitude in person to many of them.
To our loyal customers: We will be holding our Retirement Sale starting January 17th, so be sure to visit us early and often to get the best selection. If you have any store credits or gift cards, please be sure to use them soon. The same goes for members of our loyalty program – while points do not hold a cash value, we encourage you to take advantage of your rewards while our inventory is at its best.
