Cold Feet - Warm HeartsUPDATE THANK-YOU for joining Red Sky At Night in their support of the warm hearts who care for those who have cold feet in 2009. By the end of March 15th, 2009 your warm hearts will have donated over 450 pairs of shoes to those in need.
This represents an approximate retail value of $33,000.00 !
Red Sky partnered with the 10th Avenue Alliance Church and their program Out of the Cold. This is a ministry that was started about 5 years ago to serve the growing homeless population in Vancouver. Each Monday evening the Church serves a dinner to an average 100 people and provide overnight accommodation to 25. They also have a ministry called “Oasis” on Tuesdays which serves lunch to an average of 75 people and includes a “drop in” centre for people to meet, have coffee and be inside for a few hours (Oasis has been operating for 10 years). Both of these ministries have had a huge impact on their guests and has provided a good opportunity for the congregation in the 10th Avenue Alliance Church to serve and build connections with a population of people who’ve they may have not otherwise been in contact. Lastly, some of the women's shoes went to Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre which provides advocacy, workshops, and crisis intervention to women of the Downtown Eastside. The drop-in centre offers free clothing, showers, meals, and programmed activities.
